Scurry, scurry, quiet. Stay...stay...GO! The puppy ran through the alley to the back of the resaruant, remaining unseen by the employee and rushing under his feet into the restaraunt. She was in, now where? Luckily she had managed to outrun the mean lady from the library, but now her most important worry was food.
She was in the kitchen and the sents made her growling tummy almost painful. Finally, she had been trying all day to get food, perhaps this time she would- HIDE!
She hurried beneath a cabinet as a group of waiteers came back to grab their trays and platters. Her hungry eyes followed the meals out of the kitchen and remenined on the door until it was clear. Three cooks, two waiters, and...her mouth watered at the sight of a plate, apparently forgotten by one of the waiters, she'd better move fast.
Hmm, the counter was so high she'd have to change...no she'd be noticed then. Ooh, she had to hurry...Fine!
She crept from the cabinet and changed silently, creeping further toward the small dish...almost...almost. She pulled the white porcelain plate of food from to counter and dumbed the food into the pack at her side. She put the plate back, holding her breath, and startred to change back,
"Hey!" called one of the cooks, "get back here theif!"
His booming voice hurried her transformation and she disappeared out the back and into the shadow of the alley long before anyone could catch her. Transforming again she hurried up the fire escape and to the rooftops where she sat, hiding and pulled out her meal. A chunck of bread, a pear, some grapes, and some cheese. A meal worthy of a princess, she giggled, imagining herself as a princess of theives as she took a bite of the cheese, her hungry stomach thanking her as she began to scarf to the food, too good and much too needed.
She sighed and looked up at the moon, chewing the bread. Mommy, Daddy she said with her heart, I hope you guys are doing alright, 'cuz I'm okay here by myself. she smiled confidently at the stars, See, I got my own food an' my own place an' everything, so don't you worry! Finishing her bread and eating a few grapes, she took off, running across the route she took every time she stole from that restaraunt. Until she leapt from the roof, grabbing a bare pipe hanging from the wall of an abandoned building and swung into her comfy abode, feeling safe for the first time all day. Hopefully the mean lady wouldn't show up here to yell at her.
The ragged curtains served as a wall against the broken down brick. She put her pack on a three-legged table with a stack of broken bricks serving as the fourth leg, and removed her spoils. A pocket watch that she would trade at the pawn shop tomorrow, her pear and remaining grapes, and several volumes of manga, and a needle with thread.
She took the pear and the manga and plopped down on a dirty bean-bag chair and turning on the flashlight, reading exitedly and taking a bite from the pear. Yep, mommy and daddy, this is the life, don' worry about me.
